My Style File, Australia’s Got Talent Decider Show
Wednesday, July 25, 2012

This is my last My Style File for Australia’s Got Talent series six. I have loved sharing Ben’s fashion finds and Fotini’s beauty tricks with you and giving you an insight into how we all put a look together.

We always start with finding the right dress - and tonight I think this Aurelio Costarella gown gave me an extra little slink in my step (as only a bias-cut silk gown can do!).

The Look
My two inspirations for the look were Isabella Rosellini and images I have seen from Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming film The Great Gatsby. Both are elegant, modern and timeless.

Here’s what Channel 7 stylist Ben Amery had to say about tonight’s look: "The highlight for me at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia back in May was the Aurelio Costarella Spring Summer 12/13 show, and the stand out dress was this ‘De Ville’ gown.

It floated down the runway in Ivory silk crepe, beautiful and ethereal, like a fairytale. I thought it would be perfect for Dannii, but later when I saw this dramatic black version I knew this was THE gown to end series six with.

Dannii knows how to work the elegance and sophistication of a bygone era, as does this gown. Like the screen sirens of the 1930s, Dannii oozes class in this Costarella masterpiece. For accessories we felt it was best paired simply with diamonds and pearls by Paspaley, and a pair of Dannii’s lace Giussepe Zanotti pumps. Divine.”

Aurelio is one of my favourite Aussie designers. He is based in Perth and has been at the top of the fashion circles for fabulous frocks for years. As a designer myself I am always intrigued about the inspiration behind a dress.

This is what Aurelio had to say: “The ‘De Ville’ gown was inspired by classic 1930s Hollywood glamour. Elegant, bias cut, Ostrich feather adorned - sophistication at its very best, just like Dannii!”

Ahh.. thanks boys!

Hair and make-up
Okay girls, arm yourself with your makeup brushes and get ready to party…here are this week’s makeup tips from Fotini Hatzis.

The make-up
“So out comes the mood board for this week’s look and it’s all about old-world glamour with a contemporary feel. Isabella Rosalini was our vision for the hair and make-up this week, to compliment the romantic feel of the Costarella gown.

This week for foundation I used Latonas with a drop of MAC Care Blend essential oil for a luminous glow. we wanted an Alabaster colour to the skin – pale skin is always so classic when teamed with black and red, so no fake tan this week!

I wanted Dannii’s look to be fresh yet dramatic to compliment the feathers and the striking impact the dress makes. For her eyes I used MAC Nehru eyeshadow and added Stila Jewel eyeshadow in black diamond over the top to give a subtle shimmer to her eyes. I finished the look with Eye Of Horus black eyeliner to make her eyes stand out and create an overall more dramatic feel.

Every girl needs an Orgasm in her makeup kit…this NARS classic adds a beautiful soft gold rose to the cheeks! For a soft luminous glow I applied MAC Porcelain Pink around the temples and to the bridge of her nose. The final touch to the look was a coat of Tom Ford nail colour in 15 Smoke Red – Tom if you’re reading this we love the bottle as much as the colour!!

For a ’30s glam flutter, Dannii’s lashes got a double application of ModelCo Fibre Lash. I wanted the lips to have impact so lined them with Illamasqua Titivate lip pencil and finished the look off with Illamasqua Box lipstick.

For the hair:
I wanted Dannii’s hair to be simple as there was a lot of feather action and detail with the gown. Keeping the hair simple with a brushed sleek look was a great balance for the dramatic appeal of the dress.

Makeup tip:
I think the eyes are the most alluring feature we have and it’s your eyes that attract people. Mascara gives you instant glamour and helps define the beauty of your eyes by giving them a distinct frame. My final tip for the season is to always use an eyelash curler before applying mascara. It will automatically make the eyes appear wider and open up your face.

Fo’s departing line of the day: “Anyway, eyes back to me! I’m off to the wrap party in my killer heels - and by killer I mean shoes that are going to kill me dancing the night away!”
